Full Moon Dates, Names and Information:

~October, the Tenth Month ~

The best action happens on the 7th, from 4:30 to 6:30 a.m., when Venus is high and absolutely dazzling at its greatest brilliancy. Look for a beautiful tight bunching of Venus, Saturn, the blue star Regulus, and the crescent Moon. Venus and Saturn are closest together from the 11th to the 15th, and they are especially striking before daybreak when viewed with a small telescope. Mercury starts to appear in that vicinity, too, during the last days of the month, but it is much lower than the others. The Moon makes its closest approach to Earth for the year on the 26th, the night it is full; its surface will then be approximately 221,688 miles from ours.

Full moon names: Full hunter’s moon; full travel moon; full dying grass moon

~November, the Eleventh Month~

Mercury has its year’s-best morning showing during the first 24 days of the month. It’s bright in the predawn east, but it can’t approach the dazzle of higher-up Venus. The crescent Moon has a close encounter with Venus on the 5th, then floats below Mercury on the 8th, 40 minutes before sunrise. With its orbit temporarily more oval than usual, the Moon is at its farthest distance of the year—about 252,705 miles—on the 9th. A week later, Saturn makes a comeback and rises by 1:00 a.m. The big story is Mars, now brightening rapidly in Gemini and rising by 8:30 p.m at midmonth. The evening sky finds Jupiter sinking; it’s conspicuous early in the month but very low by Thanksgiving.

Full moon names: Full beaver moon; full frost moon

Becoming The Lotus
From: Awakening Osiris: The Egyptian Book of the Dead,
translated by Normandi Ellis

As if I’d slept a thousand years underwater I wake into a new season. I am the blue lotus rising. I am the cup of dreams and memory opening – I, the thousand-petaled flower. At dawn the sun rises naked and new as a babe; I open myself and am entered by light. This is the joy, the slow awakening into fire as one by one the petals open, as the fingers that held tight the secret unfurl. I let go of the past and release the fragrance of flowers.

I open and light descends, fills me and passes through, each thin blue petal reflected perfectly in clear water. I am that lotus filled with light reflected in the world. I float content within myself, one flower with a thousand petals, one life lived a thousand years without haste, one universe sparking a thousand stars, one god alive in a thousand people.

If you stood on a summer’s morning on the bank under a brilliant sky, you would see the thousand petals and say that together they make the lotus. But if you lived in its heart, invisible from without, you might see how the ecstasy at its fragrant core gives rise to its thousand petals. What is beautiful is always that which is itself in essence, a certainty of being. I marvel at myself and the things of earth.

I float among the days in peace, content. Not part of the world, the world is all the parts of me. I open toward light and lift myself to the gods on the perfume of prayer. I ask for nothing beyond myself. I own everything I need. I am content in the company of god, a prayer that contains its own answer. I am the lotus. As if from a dream, I wake up laughing.

Until next time, keep smilin’. May the Creator hold you in the palm of His hand and may you float as a feather upon the breath of the Creator.
